Thornview 55+ (TSCA) Activity Descriptions
Card Games
Bridge
- Casual Party Bridge is open to players from Beginner to Advanced and is played on Mondays and Thursdays at 12:30pm (arrive early to be guaranteed a foursome). $1 is collected from each player and then redistributed as prize money for those having the highest scores as well as for the low score.
Canasta
- Canasta is played on Wednesdays at 12:30pm. New players are welcome. The game is played by four players in two partnerships who attempt to make “melds” of seven cards of the same rank.
Cribbage
- Cribbage is played on Wednesdays at 12:30pm. The Thornview game is played by two players at a table.
Euchre
- Euchre is played on Mondays at 1:00pm. It is a trick-taking game played by four players, two to a team.
Five Crowns
- Five Crowns is played on every second Saturday at 12:30pm.
Whist
- Whist is played on Friday at 12:30pm and every second Saturday at 1:00pm. It is a trick-taking game similar to Bridge, but without bidding and with preset trump order. Money is collected at the start of play and is redistributed to the winning players at the end of the play.
Sports and Physical Activities
Line Dance
- Line dance is currently available following Taiji on Monday and Wednesday and takes place downstairs
Taiji
- Taiji Qigong meets every weekday at 9:00am to 10:00am downstairs
Snooker
- Thornview offers 4 well-maintained, full-size 12’X6’ snooker tables, unparalleled in Calgary
- Open daily from 10:00 am to 9:00pm for drop-in and pool play
- Offers both recreational play and competitive play
- Running in-house league and a challenge ladder
- Regular tournament arrangements

Bocce
- Bocce is an outdoor game played from Spring though to early Fall. Please contact Thornview Seniors thornviewseniors@gmail.com in May, 2023, if you are interested
Dance
- Line Dancing - we are seeking an instructor for a Tuesday class and we have currently have line dance Monday and Wednesday at 10:00am
Five-pin Bowling
- Bowling is at the Thorncliffe Greenview (North entrance, downstairs) lanes on Tuesday at 1:00pm. We have room for many more players so please consider joining us
Floor Shuffleboard
- Floor shuffleboard is played on Tuesday at 1:00pm. If you are interested, please email us at thornviewseniors@gmail.com
Yoga for 55+
- we are looking to begin a yoga class on Tuesdays. If you are a teacher looking for a place to teach or a person looking to participate, please call Rhonda at 403-808-2798
Ceramics and Knitting
The Ceramics Group meets at 10:00 on Wednesdays to work with greenware. Thornview has a kiln available for firing.
The Knitting Group meets at 1:15 on Thursdays. Activities include knitting, crocheting and sewing.
MahJong and Karaoke
MahJong is played on Monday, Wednesday and Friday following Taiji after 10:00am.
Karaoke reservation slots are Friday and Saturday from 6:00pm, Sunday from 1:00pm.
Library, Book and Puzzle Exchange
A volunteer maintained library accepts donations of puzzles and books for reading and/or exchange.
